The owner is the user account with full control of the restaurant profile, including billing and users. When a restaurant changes hands, or when the person who set it up leaves, the owner role needs to move to someone else.

You can do it yourself as long as you can still log in. Nothing else changes: the bookings, guests, settings and subscription all stay on the same account.

Just changing your own login email?

Go to MenuSettings & add-onsAccountUsers, click the pencil on your own row, type the new address and save. You keep everything, including the owner role. Use the transfer steps below only when the account is passing to a different person.

Transfer ownership yourself

  1. Go to MenuSettings & add-onsAccountUsersAdd user, and create a user with the new email address. If that address already has a Resos login, Resos sends an invite instead of creating the user. The invite has to be accepted, and the link is valid for 7 days, before the user shows in the Users list and can take ownership.
  2. Back in the Users list, click the pencil icon next to the new user. Do not click Change password first; the Transfer ownership button is hidden while that field is open.
  3. Click Transfer ownership.

The new user is now the owner, and you become an Admin on the account. Each person still logs in with their own email address; the transfer moves the owner role, not the login itself. The Users page is only open to Owner and Admin users.

Note: Your Stripe account is separate from your Resos login. Check in Stripe who owns it and where payouts go before you hand the restaurant over.

What the new owner takes over

Everything stays where it is. The account keeps its bookings, guest list, opening hours, tables, add-ons and subscription, so there is no migration to run and no need to start a second profile.

Worth checking straight after the handover:

  • Company name and address under MenuSettings & add-onsAccountName & contact. These are the details your invoices are issued to, so update them if the legal entity changed. Invoices are addressed to the contact email on that screen, not to the owner’s login, so check that separately.
  • Booking notification emails under MenuSettings & add-onsNotifications, under the Communication heading. This is a list of addresses, so remove the previous owner’s address as well as adding the new one.
  • Payment method under MenuSettings & add-onsAccountBilling, so the subscription is not still charging the previous owner’s card. The Billing tile only appears once a subscription exists, and only for Owner and Admin users.
  • Users. The previous owner is not removed by the transfer, they become an Admin. Once you are the owner you can remove them, and anyone else who has left, with the bin icon.

Ask us to transfer it

If you cannot complete the transfer yourself, email hi@resos.com with the current owner email, the new owner email and the restaurant name.

Note: We ask that the request comes from the current owner’s email address. Without it, anyone could ask us to hand over a restaurant’s booking system and guest data.

If nobody can reach the current owner’s mailbox, we can only act after we have verified you another way. Write to us from an address that is already a user on the account, and explain the situation. That makes the transfer take longer than the self-service route.

Changing the company, keeping the restaurant

New legal entity, rebrand or a new name at the same premises? Do not close the account and sign up again. Edit the details on your existing account and carry on: your guest history and bookings come with you.

If the restaurant itself is closing, see how to close or delete your Resos account.
