This policy explains how cookies and similar technologies are used on resos.com and on the online booking pages that Resos serves for restaurants using our booking system. It supplements our Privacy Policy, which describes how we handle personal data in general.
In this document “Resos”, “we”, “us” and “our” mean Resos ApS, Copenhagen, Denmark, company registration number (CVR): DK39377187, together with our website domains and apps.
What cookies are
Cookies are small text files that a website can store on your device to make your experience more efficient. Websites also use related technologies for the same purposes, such as browser storage (localStorage and sessionStorage) and tracking pixels. In this policy we use “cookies” for all of them.
Some cookies are set by Resos (first-party cookies). Others are set by providers whose services appear on our pages (third-party cookies). Each of those providers processes the data it collects under its own privacy terms.
What we use cookies for
We group cookies into the same four categories you see in our cookie settings:
Necessary. Required for the website and the booking flow to work, and cannot be switched off. These keep your session and your booking in progress, remember the cookie choices you have made, and support secure card payments where a restaurant takes deposits or prepayment.
Functional. Remember your preferences so you do not have to enter them again, such as your language, your name, email and phone for a return booking, and whether you want email or SMS notifications.
Analytics. Help us understand how visitors use our pages, so we can measure and improve them. This is aggregate, statistical use: we look at how groups of visitors move through the pages, not at you as an individual.
Marketing. Set by us and by our advertising partners to measure the performance of our advertising and, on resos.com, to show you relevant ads. When you allow marketing cookies, we also store advertising click identifiers in first-party cookies for up to 90 days so that a sign-up can be attributed to the campaign it came from. Where a booking is completed on a page that has marketing consent, contact details may be shared with our advertising partner in an irreversibly hashed form, purely to measure that conversion.
The providers we use
The third-party providers that may set cookies on our pages today are Cookiebot (consent management on resos.com), Google Analytics, Google Ads, Meta, Microsoft Clarity, and Stripe (card payments on booking pages). We may add or remove providers over time. The cookie settings on our booking pages always list the exact cookies in use, cookie by cookie, with their purpose, storage duration and type.
How we ask for your consent
Necessary cookies are set without asking, because the site cannot work without them. Everything else is set only in line with the choice you make.
On resos.com, a consent banner is shown by our consent management provider. You can reopen it at any time with the “Cookies” link in the site footer.
On the booking pages we serve for restaurants, the banner is built into the booking page:
- Visitors in the EU and EEA, the United Kingdom, Switzerland, Brazil and Quebec are asked to choose before any non-necessary cookie is set. Nothing is set while the banner is open, and declining is as easy as accepting. The same applies when we cannot determine your region.
- Elsewhere, non-necessary cookies may be set by default and a bar at the bottom of the page lets you decline or manage them at any time. Restaurants outside the regions above can also choose to ask for consent up front instead.
- When a restaurant embeds the Resos booking widget in its own website, consent for that page is handled by that website’s own cookie banner.
Your choice is passed on to Google’s tags through Google Consent Mode, and is stored on your device for up to a year. We ask again if our use of cookies changes materially.
Reviewing, changing or withdrawing your choices
You can change your mind at any time, and withdrawing consent is as easy as giving it.
- On a booking page, open the cookie settings from the link at the bottom of the page. The “Details” tab lists every cookie we set, and the “Consent” tab is where you turn each category on or off.
- On resos.com, use the “Cookies” link in the site footer.
Withdrawing consent stops the further use of the cookies in that category. It does not undo processing that already took place while your consent was in force.
Managing cookies in your browser
You can also block or delete cookies in your browser, independently of our banners. The steps depend on the browser you use:
Google Chrome · Safari · Microsoft Edge · Mozilla Firefox
Blocking all cookies will affect how our pages work. In particular, the booking flow needs its necessary cookies to keep your booking together from one step to the next.
Legal basis
Where the GDPR applies, cookies categorized as necessary are used on the basis of our legitimate interest in providing a working website and booking flow, GDPR Article 6 (1) (f). All other cookies, functional, analytics and marketing, are used on the basis of your consent, GDPR Article 6 (1) (a).
Changes to this policy
We update this policy when our use of cookies changes. The date of the most recent update is shown at the top of this page.
