Reserve with Google troubleshooting

  5. Does the integration with Google cost more on top of the booking plan?

This assumes Reserve with Google is already set up, see Reserve with Google (FAQ) first for setup, requirements, and how bookings and settings sync with Google. This guide covers what to check when the “book” button will not show, what the Match failed error means, and questions about payments, turning the integration off, and its price.

Why is the “book” button not showing?

Work through this list before contacting us, as it resolves most cases:

1. Check the timing. A new activation, and any change afterwards, can take up to 48 hours to appear.

2. Check your country. See the country list in Reserve with Google (FAQ). If Reserve with Google is not available where you are, the button will never appear.

3. Check your plan. The add-on needs an active paid plan. If your subscription has ended, your restaurant stops being included in the update we send Google, and the button disappears.

4. Check the requirements in the dashboard. Open the Reserve with Google add-on page. Anything still missing (areas and tables, opening hours, address, booking feature, the “Disable online booking” setting, which is the Disable booking page & widget switch) is listed there.

5. Check your listing details in Google. Resos identifies your restaurant to Google by an internal id, not by your name, so renaming your venue in Resos does not break the connection. The name, address and phone number on the listing itself are edited by you in your Google Business Profile, and keeping them current is worth doing while you are there.

6. Check your Google business profile. It needs to be claimed and verified, with “restaurant” set as its category. A profile listed as a hotel or another category is not eligible for restaurant reservations.

7. Check whether another provider holds the slot. If a previous booking system is still connected, you have to choose Resos manually on your Google profile.

If all of the above is set up correctly, but the “book” button is still not visible, please contact us at hi@resos.com and we will look into it asap.

What does “Something went wrong, please try again (Match failed [400])” mean?

It means the activation did not complete. The message is a technical one passed straight through from the system, and it does not point at one specific cause, so please do not read it as a verdict on your account.

Start with the checklist above, in particular the requirements listed on the add-on page and the country on your address. If activation still fails, send us the restaurant name and the exact message at hi@resos.com and we will find out what is blocking it.

Is it possible to take payments through Reserve with Google?

With Resos, we offer the possibility to take payments from guests in the form of prepayment and/or no-show fees. This is, unfortunately, not supported through Reserve with Google yet. We tell Google that this restaurant does not take prepayments, so if you have activated prepayment and/or no-show fees, your guests are still able to create a booking directly on Google but neither will be charged automatically.

If a deposit or a no-show fee matters to you, you have two options. Keep an eye on the bookings that come in through Google and add the payment to the booking manually, or send guests to your own Resos booking page for the bookings you want covered.

How do I turn Reserve with Google off?

If the add-on is active on your account, you can switch it off yourself. Follow the steps in this guide. It can take up to 48 hours for the booking button to disappear from Google afterwards.

If there is no Disable button, or no Reserve with Google card at all, the integration was probably never active on your account. That happens in three situations:

  • The add-on was never switched on. Open the add-on page. If it shows an Activate add-on button, or a button inviting you to choose a plan, rather than Disable, it has never been active on your account, so there is nothing to switch off. Reserve with Google needs a paid plan, so it is very unlikely to have been activated on a free plan.
  • Your country is not supported. The add-on card is only shown to restaurants in the countries Google supports. See the country list in Reserve with Google (FAQ).
  • The link on Google was added by hand. A “Reservations URL” that someone once typed into your Google business profile is not the Reserve with Google integration. Resos did not put it there and cannot take it away. You remove it in your Google business profile, in the same field where it was added.

If neither fits your situation, write to us at hi@resos.com and we will check what is connected to your account.

Does the integration with Google cost more on top of the booking plan?

If you choose to activate Reserve with Google and are using a paid plan, the add-on is charged on top of your plan. See our pricing page for the current price. The exact price for your restaurant, including whether yearly billing is cheaper, is the one shown on the add-on page in your dashboard (MenuSettings & add-onsIntegrationsReserve with Google) before you activate it. There is no commission per booking, and the first 30 days are free.

We, of course, hope that you have managed to activate Reserve with Google without any issues. If there’s anything we can do to help, please just let us know at hi@resos.com. We would be more than happy to answer any questions you might have or just have a small chat about how this or other features and integrations can help you.
